California-based Label Not Able To Sustain In Sluggish Economy
Sustainable Collective, a collection of convertible knits made from certified organic cotton and recycled fabrics, has announced the collection will close at the end of this season due to sluggish sales. The California-based company launched in its men's and women's collection of tees and separates in Spring 2007. Included in its sustainable mission was an adherence to a strict fair labor policy, a commitment to using plant and root-based dye techniques, such as those derived from weeds, South American fair-trade teas and the use of recycled tags and packaging. Brooklyn's Premiere Eco Design Store Pops-Up In Manhattan
Vivavi, one of the premiere eco-minded furniture stores, has opened a "Pop-Up" store in Manhattan. The Brooklyn-based design outlet, which is the brainchild of lazy environmentalist Josh Dorfman, has partnered with the Riverhouse, a luxury "green" condo building located in Tribeca. The shop is part of a two-bedroom model unit that overlooks the Hudson River. Items featured at the showroom include dining sets and furniture by Eviva, and are made from responsibly-sourced hardwoods and non-toxic varnishes; original mosaics by Schimmel Art, made from tiles cut from junk mail; handwoven and hand dyed rugs by Christian Rathbone and a fun lighting...
