It was a gloomy day on Tuesday, but plenty of people managed to crowd into the Desmond Tutu Center on Manhattan's West Side to view John Patrick Organic's spring presentation. With a nod to the famous "American Gothic" painting, models were nestled among bales of hay and chewed on strands of straw.



The men's and women's collections, which seemed heavily influenced by Americana, were sophisticated and tailored, yet with the casual, prairie feel that has become so popular. While the collections continue to be dominated by organic and surplus cotton separates, there are some vintage-inspired prints on cupro -- a biodegradable yarn made from cotton filaments -- a refreshing addition to the traditionally neutral color palette.















Standout pieces include the silk romper, the organic cotton miniskirts and worker pants and the trenches made from recycled polyester.
